A 102-metre wooden warship sits in a dry dock at the edge of a town of 7,400 people. The frigate Jylland is not a replica and not a model; she is the actual ship, launched in 1860, shot up off Heligoland in 1864, and now the longest surviving warship built of wood anywhere in the world. Walking Ebeltoft's cobbled Overgade past leaning half-timbered facades, you can see her masts over the rooftops. The scale is wrong in the best way — as though the town borrowed something from a much larger country and never gave it back.
